WPKN Broadcast Update- Friday November 2 @ 9:00am

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

We were back on-air briefly for an hour last night- Thanks to the efforts of Mark Mushin, a WPKN staff member  our chief engineer and co-host of “The Car Bob” Show and Dom Bordonaro. We are now off-air again.

Because there is still no power to our Booth Hill transmitter site in Trumbull, we’ve been trying to get our back-up generator up and running without any luck.  There is a severe leak in the radiator that is involved in powering the generator. We thought we had a short term fix til UL turned us back on but the fix did not hold last night.  We’ve spent hours trying to sort it out while hoping United Illuminating (UL) would re-connect the power grid.  Mark Mushin will be back this morning trying to see if we can get the back-up power going but it will be less than 50-50 at this point.

We are back in the offices of WPKN on the University of Bridgeport campus and have been sending out “thank-you’s” to those who pledged during our Fall On-Air drive.  The internet through Cablevision is down so unfortunately we are not able to even stream our programming via wpkn.org.

From yesterday:

WPKN has lost power at its transmitter site at our Booth Hill site in Trumbull,CT.  We are waiting for United Illuminating to reestablish our power .  Our broadcast studios are located at the University of Bridgeport (UB) which  went though a mandatory evacuation and also shut down the campus power grid.  UB classes are not going to resume this week. However, WPKN did get power back to its offices.

This has been a difficult time for our entire region and we know you miss WPKN as much as all of us here ! Be safe and we hope to be back with our friends and listeners very soon.

1 PM Sunday Brunch Concert: Sandy Connolly Band

Sandy was originally trained in the depths of the Southland to sing opera, as her father was an opera buff and wept to hear her sing in that manner. Her parents sent her to school to study classically, but she had the fortunate opportunity in 1986 to hear Bonnie Raitt in an intimate concert on Martha’s Vineyard. There she found her musical calling: the blues and rock n’ roll. Throwing dirt on her pure tone and getting all gravely and groovy was way more fun, and way more people liked to listen to it. Her latest project is forming the Sandy Connolly Band, which is Sam Bradford on lead guitar, Freddie Rathbun on bass, and Vic Dias on drums.
