Thursday November 19  8:00 pm: The Maltese Falcon-Live Performance

The Big Read literary celebration concludes today, Nov. 19, with a live radio show adaptation of The Maltese Falcon at 8:00 p.m. in The Watermark’s downstairs theater, 3030 Park Ave. in Bridgeport.

The program, free and open to the public, will be presented by Dandelion Productions/Connecticut Free Shakespeare and broadcast live on WPKN and wpkn.org.

The radio performance will include period music and real sound effects in an effort to bring back old-time radio for a half hour. The cast includes actors from New York and Connecticut.

A closing reception for the Big Read, with light refreshments courtesy of The Watermark, will take place immediately following the program, to thank all the community partners and participants.

This year’s Big Read was coordinated by the Barnum Museum and involved more than a month of events in Bridgeport and Shelton to highlight Dashiell Hammett’s 1930 detective novel, made famous by the 1941 film starring Humphrey Bogart.

This literary program is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts that is designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. This is the third year Bridgeport has participated in the Big Read.
