Edwin Howard Armstrong was a pioneer inventor of broadcast technology. His inventions paved the way for Radio and television as we know it. Armstrong was also an avid square dance enthusiast. He held dances every Saturday night on a large dance platform placed on top of one of his many antenna tower arrays. One Saturday the tower collapsed after a large rowdy crowd gathered for the evening festivities. Armstrong was sued by many of the families and victims of this tragic accident. These lawsuits plagued Armstrong for the remainder of his life. We do have a photograph of Square Dancers on the tower available. Due to the graphic nature of this photo we have placed it on another page. |

Many radio broadcasters in the 30's moved South Of The Border to avoid Broadcasting regulations and liability. Dr. Brinkly was one of them. He was radio Surgeon of some note and claimed to be the most learned Doctor in America. Dr Brinkly became quite famous for his broadcasts and an unusual surgical practice of transplanting goat gonads into human recipients. His radio station, XERA was a home for faith healers, questionable patent medicines, lawsuits, country music, controversy and great success. The names have changed but the content remains the same in broadcasting today. |
