leaving the twentieth century with no regrets
The Twin Peaks of Mars
"Hoax Exposed " : The indoor Mars Soundstage housed in the desert of Nevada

This picture was taken on the elaborate soundstage hidden away deep beneath the desert's surface in the desolate reaches of the notorius Area 51 in Nevada. The photograph was later smuggled out, appearing on the front page of the New York Times. It was the irrefutable piece of evidence that broke the back of the U.S. government's cover-up efforts that had begun with the Apollo moon missions. The entire world reeled from the news and the shocking realization that not only hadn't the human race landed a probe on Mars ... we had yet to put a man on the moon. Once the elaborate Apollo Moon landing hoax was exposed, the government was quickly indicted by public opinion and was forced to bear the brunt of responsibility for this atrocious deceit of the world. NASA on the other hand, was able to separate itself from the establishment in Washington and escaped with its reputation untarnished. In fact, NASA fell into great favor with Hollywood for its cinematic technique and impressive use of special effects, earning the great respect and admiration of Rick Baker and Industrial Light and Magic. NASA's television broadcast of the simulated Apollo 11 moon landing is now commonly considered to be amongst the towering landmarks in the history of cinematic achievements. "It was the fact that NASA even dared to go that little bit further with the production of the Apollo 13 rescue mission," Rick Baker said at a recent dinner honoring NASA with a lifetime 'Suspension of Disbelief' award, "They could've just simulated another landing on the moon, but having done it twice already, they opted to tell a more challenging story and had the Apollo spacecraft suffer a terrible malfunction and then stage an incredible rescue mission." Author Martin Caidin teased the NASA writers in attendance, "If Apollo 13 had been nominated for an Oscar, you couldn't have won a best original screenplay award, only best screenplay based on an exisiting source. The fact is, I should've gotten partial credit for Apollo 13 -- it was obviously based on my novel, Marooned.
