Meet Scout Proft, a woman who, with her husband, has been running a small, organic, diversified farming operation on a mountain top in Vermont. Last year their Someday Farm was honored as the Vermont Sustainable Agriculture Farm of the Year.
July 2007
Two guests presenting different sides of the controversy over the Broadwater liquid natural gas proposal for Long Island Sound, and then a conversation with a member of the Sierra Club about questioning local candidates on their environmental views.
June 2007
My annual review of the good, the bad and the inconclusive environmental bills in this year's Connecticut General Assembly.
May 2007
This month I return to the Louisiana Gulf Coast for an interview
with Steve Gonzales, a man I met at the Habitat for Humanity
volunteer center in St. Bernard Parish, which was even harder
hit by Hurricane Katrina than either New Orleans or Mississippi.
He is dealing with the trauma of losing his house and, a few
months later, his wife of more than 40 years, by reaching out
to the hundreds of voluteers – mostly young people – who
have been coming down to help.
April 2007
During my third trip to the Gouisiana Gulf Coast, I interviewed George Barasich,
president of the United Commercial Fishermen's Association, about how things
have changed during his 40 years of shrimping and oystering, and what he thinks
must be done to restore the wetlands of South Louisiana, which are disappearing
faster than any other land on earth.
March 2007
My show this month includes interviews with four participants
in the March 10 conference sponsored by the Connecticut chapter
of the Northeast Organic Farming Association, or NOFA. They’ll
be talking about the importance of local foods, poisons in
the flower business, what’s up with honeybees, and how
to heal diseased and damaged trees through tree whispering.
I wrap up with a conversation about efforts to expand Connecticut's
bottle bill to include include water bottles and non-carbonated
drinks.

If you've never been sure exactly what "environmental justice" means,
listen to this speech given by Peggy Shepard at the 11th annual Martin Luther
King Jr. Day celebration at Yale's Peabody Museum in New Haven on January
14, 2007. Shepard is executive director and co-founder of West Harlem Environmental
Action, Inc. or WE ACT. Founded in 1988, WE ACT was New York's first environmental
justice organization created to improve environmental health and quality of life
in communities of color.
