Ongoing special programs
I am pleased to be co-producing an irregular but continuing series of programs called "Immigrant Voices." Host by Anthony Riccio (author of ""The Italian American Experience in New Haven: Images and Oral Histories," and "Boston's North End: Images and Recollections of an Italian-American Neighborhood") will present taped oral history interviews with elderly Italian Americans who tell their stories about life experiences in the rural farmlands of Italy, their cross-Atlantic journeys on the ships, their religious and spiritual practices in the new world, and their gradual assimilation into the American mainstream on the production lines of factory floors, in the sweatshops of the needle trades, as political leaders, and as soldiers. Folk music from the various regions of Italy will accompany their stories.
The second edition is online now: Immigrant Voices
The third edition is in the planning stages and I hope to have it on the air in late June/early July
Jazz WorldWide
Hosted by my friend and musical cohort Michael Stone, on an irregular basis. Michael is the director of the Program in Latin American Studies at Princeton University, host of the Jazz Worldwide every Monday from 8:00 to 10:00 PM Eastern Time (US) on WWFM HD2, in Trenton-Princeton, New Jersey and contributing editor to RootsWorld Magazine. He is producing a special series of programs for occasional broadcast on WPKN. Sign up for the online newsletter to find out when!
